Amateur video captures the dramatic moment when a power substation operated by the New York utility company ConEdison exploded on Monday night. The explosion lit up the night sky and startled New Yorkers gathered on the streets of Williamsburg, in Brooklyn, despite the high winds and driving rain that signalled the arrival of super storm Sandy. It also knocked out power to about 310-thousand customers in Manhattan.
