Tine Isachsen & Sara Tanderø exhibits at Bestiary In their photo project Play Hide and Seek, Tine Isachesen and Sara Tanderø create a surreal fairytale world inspired by Norwegian Nature Myths. The masked humans are not quite natural, juxtaposed with the animal that seems instinctive, tame and uncorrupted.Read more > Per Brevig conducting at Church of Saint Joseph, NYU Norwegian Per Brevig conducts Strathmere Festival Orchestra in an all Ravel program at Church of Saint Joseph, New York University.Read more > Viking Rapper: from New York to the North Pole "Viking Rappers" featuring photographer Martin Johansen and writer/director Simen Braathen. For one weekend only, the show will be open to the public for a short sneak preview and reopen in the fall for a month-­‐long exhibition period.Read more > Norwegian traditional design in Iowa Artists from all over the country exhibit their pieces in Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum’s annual “National Exhibition of Folk Art in the Norwegian Tradition,” the museum’s major summer show and the most important show for folk artists working in the Norwegian tradition. The judged exhibition will be on view June 11 - July 27 in the museum’s Main Building and includes knifemaking, rosemaling (Norwegian decorative painting), weaving, and woodworking, all by contemporary artists. Ribbon winners and Gold Medalists are announced in conjunction with Nordic Fest, Decorah’s city-wide celebration of Norwegian heritage, which begins this year the evening of July 25 and runs throughout the day July 26 and 27. Read more > Harlem in the Himalayas Norwegian composer and pianist Christian Wallumrod is performing with his diverse ensemble at the Rubin Museum of Art. The museum is located on 150 W, 17th street on Manhattan. Make sure not to miss this performance on June 21st. Read more > MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image at Scandinavia House The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) presents MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image, an exhibition featuring two of the 20th century’s most prolific and inventive printmakers. Curated by Dr. Patricia Berman and Pari Stave, the exhibition will be on view April 27 through July 27, 2013 at Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America.Read more > Trygve Lie Gallery – Coastal cathedrals: A journey on the edge of Norway Coastal cathedrals are an exhibition of photographs by Sigrid Torbjørnsen displaying Lighthouses all over Norway. The show is on view at Trygve Lie Gallery running June 13 – August 31. The Gallery is located on 52nd street between 1st and 2nd avenue on Manhattan, New York. Read more > Screening at NYU Skirball Center – Munch 150 EXHIBITION is a new theatrical series of events, bringing the world’s greatest art exhibitions to cinema screens worldwide. EXHIBITION will feature the world’s foremost upcoming art exhibitions, creatively captured especially for the big screen. The film about Edvard Munch will be on view at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.Read more > “My Struggle: Book Two” by Karl Ove Knausgaard to be released in the US The second book of the Norwegian critically acclaimed Karl Ove Knausgaard's six volume book series will finally be released in the US on May 15. The book series has been an extraordinary success in Norway and Scandinavia. Knausgaard has gotten a lot of attention with the book series, where he describes stories from his life with startling insight and honesty. Read more > Hanneline Røgeberg exhibits at Blackston Hanneline Røgeberg exhibits Never Odd or Even at Blockston Gallery from April 28 - June 9. Røgeberg’s exhibition includes four large-scale oil paintings that resist clear assignation to abstraction or representation. The paintings loosely carry the physical impression of each other, and break with conventional perceptual boundaries to complicate the viewer’s direct relationship to each painting. The imprint loosely takes the form of a pelt, an image frequently found in her work, while eluding immediate definition of what is visible.Read more > Insects: Real and Imaginary, an exhibition "Insects: Real and Imaginary," an extensive survey of bold and colorful insect-inspired paintings by Claus Hoie (b. Stavanger, Norway, 1911 - d. East Hampton, NY, 2007) will be on view at Clinton Academy Museum, from June 1 through June 30. Watercolors in the exhibition span the last three decades of the artist's life. A number have been shown in museums and galleries in New York and elsewhere, but many are on view for the first time. The largest works represent Hoie's focus during his final years and this group includes pieces that were made for presentation at the National Academy of Design Museum. Read more > Oslo on the Hudson: Performa announces Norwegian pavilion New York’s premier art event will have a special focus on Norway this November. This week Performa launched a new international program; “Pavilions Without Walls” - a new international program partnering with countries from all over the world. The Performa Pavilions program sets up large-scale collaborations between Performa and each of the participating countries, so that their international artists, cultural institutions, and art industry workers can be connected not only with the New York City cultural landscape, but with global audiences as well. As a kick off for 2013 Performa announces the participation of Norway and Poland. The magazine, which highlights Norwegian culture in the U.S., is available both as a free app and as a Digimag, which can be read online.
