Performa 13: Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls The Norwegian Pavilions Without Walls were created to forge strong partnerships between New York and Norway, allowing the Performa 13 biennial to foster deeper levels of cultural and artistic exchange. The strategy of the inaugural year's Norwegian Pavilion is specifically to highlight cultural producers in Norway and present some of the most outstanding Norwegian artists. The program is co-curated with leading institutions such as NyMusikk, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK), Kunsthall Stavanger, Kunsthall Oslo, Hordaland Art Centre, Entrée and Unge Kunstneres Samfund (UKS), collaboration with the directors and curators in Norway and New York. Performa 13: Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls Performa 13 is the only biennial dedicated to commissioning, presenting and exploring new visual art performance across disciplines. Over 50 Norwegian artists are contributing to the biennial and nine Norwegian art projects are represented as a part of The Norwegian Pavilion Without Walls. Read more > Performa 13: Flag NYC Flag NYC is an outdoor flag project involving 60 international artists, each making a statement with their own specially designed flags, which will be flown in various locations around the city during Performa. 35 of the 60 artists are Norwegian. Read more > Performa 13: Maja Ratkje - Voice is the Original Instrument A concert exploring the female vocal, beginning with Joan La Barbara’s 1976 statement that “voice is the original instrument”, an idea which retains greater resonance today, now that the human voice is increasingly subjected to forms of modification, manipulation, distribution and dispersion. Featuring Maja Ratkje, Joan la Barbara and a piece by Meredith Monk. She shows videos and photos of her recent projects, discusses her daily life at the studio, and presents a short presentation of her Performa 13 Commission, YES NIX. Read more > Performa 13: Marthe Ramm Fortun - Inverted Sky Marthe Ramm Fortun will narrate experiences and thoughts shared with her by the users of Grand Central Terminal - those who work, live, visit and commute within and throughout the Terminal.
